Lily Metsker

PhD Student

Lily holds a B.S. in Environmental Health and a Certificate in Water Resources from the University of Georgia. Her research centers on strengthening public health monitoring systems and expanding the role of wastewater-based epidemiology to serve community needs. She is developing a bacteria-based biosensor for detecting pathogens and antibiotic resistance genes in wastewater, using synthetic biology tools to enhance the transformation efficiency of Vibrio natriegens for improved environmental sensing. Outside the lab, Lily enjoys visiting the Museum of Fine Arts, strolling through Hermann Park, and exploring Houston’s food scene. She’s currently learning to crochet and play guitar.
