We are excited to congratulate Prashant and collaborators on their publication, “Detecting gene transfer in microbial communities,” being featured on the cover of Nature Biotechnology, Volume 44, Issue 2 (February 2026)!

In this work, Kalvapalle et al. developed an innovative approach to detect gene transfer events in microbial communities without requiring translation. By designing catalytic RNAs that barcode host ribosomal RNA upon gene transfer, the method enables high-throughput sequencing to identify the microbial community members involved in these events.

This achievement highlights an exciting advancement in understanding microbial gene transfer and community interactions. Congratulations again to Prashant and the entire team on this outstanding accomplishment!
