Bjorn Shockey

PhD Student

Bjorn is a Ph.D. student in Systems, Synthetic, and Physical Biology at Rice University. He earned his B.S. in Physics with a Minor in Mathematics from the College of William & Mary. His research focuses on combating the spread of antibiotic resistance by designing split antibiotic resistance genes to block horizontal gene transfer. In the long term, Bjorn aims to advance the safe deployment of engineered microbes in environmental systems to support sustainability and agricultural innovation. Outside of research, Bjorn enjoys playing sports—especially soccer—spending time with friends, and exploring all that Texas has to offer.
